Useful Information

Plant Bio

Fuchsia 'Madame Cornelissen' is a classic fuchsia variety, appreciated for its distinctive, two-toned flowers and upright growth. This plant features dark green leaves and produces pendant flowers with bright red sepals and white corollas from summer into autumn. Its striking flower contrast and reliable blooming make it a popular choice for containers, hanging baskets, and garden borders, adding a touch of vintage charm to various settings. It belongs to the Onagraceae family.

Origin: 'Madame Cornelissen' is a cultivated fuchsia hybrid.

Light: This fuchsia variety thrives in partial shade to full sun. It prefers a location with morning sun and afternoon shade, especially in warmer climates.

Water: Regular watering is essential, particularly during dry periods. Fuchsias prefer consistently moist, well-drained soil. Avoid waterlogging, which can lead to root rot.

Soil: 'Madame Cornelissen' prefers fertile, well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. It can tolerate a range of soil pH, but prefers slightly acidic to neutral conditions.

Fertilising: A balanced fertilizer applied regularly during the growing season can promote healthy growth and abundant flowering.

Pruning: Pinch back young plants to encourage bushier growth. Deadheading spent flowers can prolong the blooming period. Prune back the plant in late autumn or early spring to maintain a tidy shape.

Overwintering: In colder climates, fuchsias may need to be overwintered indoors to protect them from frost.

Pests and Diseases: Fuchsias can be susceptible to aphids, whiteflies, and spider mites. Root rot can occur in poorly drained soils.

Uses: 'Madame Cornelissen' is primarily grown as an ornamental plant for its attractive flowers and long blooming period. It's a popular choice for containers, hanging baskets, and garden borders.

Toxicity: Fuchsias are generally considered non-toxic to humans and pets. However, it is always best to keep plants out of reach of pets and children who might try to eat them.
